So this October, make these simple mummy hot dogs for your favorite ones with a few basic, family ingredients. All you need is just a handful of ingredients, and you have a perfect snack ready for the family movie nights.

So let’s make this festive snack for lovely Halloween!

🌟 Ingredients Of Mummy Hot Dogs

These spooky little snacks are quick to make with a few basic, family-friendly ingredients.

1- Hot Dogs: I love Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners Hot Dogs due to their mouthwatering combo of chicken, turkey, and pork with no filler or by-products. But you can also opt for the vegan ones.

2- Crescent Dough: Always choose the crescent dough that’s easy to handle and bakes up flaky, puffy, and adorably perfect for this recipe. So I use Pillsbury Crescent Dough for the Mummy Hot Dogs.

3- Cheese: Look, there is no other option than the classic cheese, or I would say the “American Cheese”. It melts well and is loved by all ages.

4- Other Ingredients: Use small dots of mayonnaise and black sesame seeds as a DIY version to make cute mummy eyes. You can also use two dots of mustard for mummy’s eyes. Serve with more mustard or ketchup for dipping.

🌟 How To Make Crescent Mummy Hot Dogs

Mummy Hot Dogs are always a great option for the classroom treat or a haunted house buffet made by wrapping hot dogs in thin strips of crescent dough to resemble mummy bandages.

1. Prep Your Crescent Dough

Take the crescent dough out of the can and separate it at the perforations so you have 4 large rectangles. Cut each sheet of dough lengthwise into thin strips. Generally, thinner strips will work better—we found the most success wrapping and baking with strips that were about 1 cm wide.

2. Form the Mummy Dogs

Remember, your hot dogs are already fully cooked, so there’s no need to prep them ahead of time except to remove them from their package and pat them dry.

Wrap the crescent dough strips around a hot dog and a small slice of American cheese to form “bandages,” leaving a small gap for the “face” near the top. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs.

3. Bake the Mummy Dogs

Bake in a 350°F oven until the dough is puffy and golden brown and the hot dogs are, well, hot! We reduced the heat from our original recipe to ensure that the crescent dough bakes evenly and the hot dogs are heated through.

4. Make the Mummy Eyes

Option 1: Candy Eyes

  • Once cooled slightly, place two candy eyes in the face gap, pressing gently so they stick.

Option 2: DIY Mustard Eyes

  • Dot two small drops of mustard for eyes.
  • Add a tiny dot of ketchup, olive, or black sesame seed in the center for pupils.

5. Serve!

Add two dots of mustard for eyes (or whatever other fun facial features you’d like to add) and serve with your favorite dipping sauces. Check out the full recipe below!

🍽️ Storing And Heating

Leftover crescent mummy dogs make a great lunch or snack. (There’s nothing better than seeing those little eyes looking back at you in the fridge the next day!) Here’s how to keep them fresh and tasty:

Refrigerator

Place leftover crescent mummy dogs in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

Freezer

We wouldn’t recommend freezing mummy hot dogs. We found that the dough and cheese don’t hold up well enough when reheated from frozen.

How to Reheat

We like reheating our mummy hot dogs in an air fryer or toaster oven—we’d recommend 350 for 5 to 10 minutes until they’re warm and crispy again. We wouldn’t recommend using a microwave to reheat, because it will make the crescent pastry too mushy on the outside.

🕸️ Fun Halloween Serving Ideas

Serve your mummy dogs on a platter with:

  • A “bloody” ketchup dip
  • Guacamole “slime”
  • Spiderweb mustard drizzle
  • Candy corn toothpick holders

Pair with Halloween punch or spooky apple cider for the full festive vibe!

👻 Tips & Variations

  • Mini Mummies: Use cocktail sausages for bite-sized snacks.
  • Vegan version: Use plant-based hot dogs and dairy-free dough.
  • Spicy twist: Add jalapeño slices or pepper jack cheese under the wrap.
  • Gluten-free option: Use gluten-free crescent dough or wrap in thin gluten-free tortillas.

FAQs

Can I use other types of hot dogs for this recipe?

Yes, definitely! You can use any kind you like—beef, turkey, chicken, vegan, or even mini sausages. Just keep an eye on the baking time if they’re smaller or thicker than usual.

Can I prep Crescent Mummy Dogs ahead of time?

Yes! You can wrap the hot dogs in dough and store them in the fridge (uncooked) for up to 24 hours. Just bake them fresh when you’re ready to serve.

How can I prevent the cheese from burning?

Tuck the cheese inside the dough so it’s fully covered. This keeps it from melting out and burning while baking.
