Red White and Blue Layer Cake

A soft and fluffy vanilla layer cake colored in vibrant red, white, and blue layers, finished with a smooth, creamy frosting. Perfect for celebrations and gatherings, this cake is as beautiful as it is delicious.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 ¾ cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • Red and blue gel food coloring
For Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients and milk, alternating between the two.
  6. Divide batter evenly into three bowls. Leave one plain, color one red, and one blue.
  7. Pour each batter into prepared pans and bake for 20–25 minutes.
  8. Let cakes cool completely before removing from pans.
  9. For frosting, beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  10. Layer the cakes, spreading frosting between each layer.
  11. Frost the outside evenly and decorate as desired.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Bring to room temperature before serving for best texture.
  • You can add fresh berries between layers for extra flavor.
  • For cleaner slices, chill the cake for 30 minutes before cutting.
