Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars: (4th Of July Special)

These soft and buttery sugar cookie bars are topped with a creamy frosting and festive red, white, and blue sprinkles. Perfect for summer gatherings, they’re easy to make and always a crowd favorite.

Ingredients
  

For the Bars:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
For the Frosting:
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Patriotic sprinkles

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  6. Press dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cool completely in the pan.
  9. For frosting, beat butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  10. Divide frosting and tint with red and blue coloring as desired.
  11. Spread frosting over cooled bars and decorate with sprinkles.
  12. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For cleaner cuts, chill the bars for 20–30 minutes before slicing.
  • You can double the frosting for a thicker layer if preferred.
