  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • ¼ cup reserved pasta water
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional

Method

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until al dente according to the package directions.
  2. Before draining, reserve ¼ cup of the pasta cooking water.
  3. Drain the pasta and set it aside.
  4. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat.
  5. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, stirring constantly.
  6. Stir in the Italian seasoning, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  7. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet.
  8. Pour in the reserved pasta water and toss until the noodles are evenly coated with the buttery garlic sauce.
  9. Stir in the chopped parsley.
  10. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of water or a small pat of butter to loosen the sauce.
  • Add grilled chicken, shrimp, sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or broccoli for a heartier meal.
  • Freshly grated Parmesan provides the best flavor and melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic and red pepper flakes to suit your taste.
