Cinnamon Heart Sugar Cookies

Soft and chewy sugar cookies flavored with cinnamon and topped with festive cinnamon hearts. These Cinnamon Heart Sugar Cookies are buttery, lightly spiced, and perfect for Valentine’s Day baking or gifting.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon heart candies
  • Extra cinnamon sugar optional
  • Pink or red sanding sugar optional

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Dough
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Chill the Dough
  7. Divide dough into two discs.
  8. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30–45 minutes.
  9. Chilling helps the cookies hold their shape when baking.
  10. Roll & Cut
  11. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  12. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to ¼-inch thickness.
  13. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut cookies.
  14. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  15. Decorate
  16. Press cinnamon heart candies gently into the dough.
  17. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon sugar or sanding sugar if desired.
  18. Bake
  19. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are set but centers are soft.
  20. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
