Cheeseburger Skulls Halloween Dinner

Juicy cheeseburgers baked into homemade skull-shaped hamburger buns. Perfectly spooky for Halloween or Day of the Dead, these skull burgers are buttery, cheesy, and creepy in the most delicious way.

Ingredients
  

Skull-Shaped Hamburger Buns:
  • 5 tbsp 56 g salted butter, softened (divided)
  • 3 ½ cups 420 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup 50 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp 9 g instant yeast
  • ¾ cup 170 g lukewarm water (100–110°F / 38–43°C)
Skull-Shaped Cheeseburgers:
  • 32 oz 900 g ground beef (80/20)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter lard, or vegetable oil
  • 8 slices cheese American, Cheddar, Havarti, or Provolone
  • Burger toppings: tomato lettuce, ketchup, mustard, mayo, onions, pickles

Method
 

For Skull Buns:
  1. Grease 8 skull cavities in a skull pan with 1 tbsp butter.
  2. Mix flour, egg, sugar, salt, yeast, and 2 tbsp cubed butter. Add lukewarm water and blend.
  3. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise 1–2 hours.
  4. Punch down dough, divide into 8 pieces, and press into greased skull pan.
  5. Cover, rise 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Bake 14–18 minutes, remove, and brush with melted butter. Cool before slicing.
For Cheeseburgers:
  1. Shape ground beef into 8 skull patties. Chill.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook in skillet with butter/oil, 3 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  4. Top each with cheese, cover until melted.
  5. Assemble burgers in buns with toppings.
